Panther Creek is a lovely school with many challenging and competitive sports and clubs. One of those demanding sports here at PCHS is the dance team, the Silverados. The school’s dance team embodies the Panther Pride that unites the Panther community, and the Silverados are an extension of this campus culture.
We interviewed the dance team coach, Ms. Popoff, and a Silverado student about dance at PCHS. We first asked Ms. Popoff how the team gets ready for performances. Coach Popoff “spen[ds] a couple of weeks perfecting the dances and cleaning them up so [they] make sure all the dancers are in sync. Afterward, [they] go out to the football field and practice in the morning”, she says.
One of the main questions regarding this topic is “How does dance affect PCHS school culture?” Ms. Popoff replies “They bring a lot of spirit and pride because they are the ones out there greeting and cheering on for people. The way they perform at pep rallies gets people motivated and excited.”
“The whole team is always there for each other and spreads that towards the school” adds a Silverado student.
Dance at PCHS not only affects the school, pep rallies, and football games but it has a huge impact on the dancers as well. We asked a Silverado student how dance has affected her life at school and she replied “It made me step out of my comfort zone, and it made me branch out and talk to people.” Together, the dance team brings a sense of unity to the school and community. They are supporters of organizations in addition to their own, and this emulates the culture of Panther Creek HS.
The dance team has made a major impact here at Panther Creek. From performing at football games to greeting students on the first day of school, the Silverados provide plenty of entertainment and excitement for students and staff.
